"Sputiamo su Hegel e altri scritti", with Annarosa Buttarelli

On November 25th at 5.30pm, M9 Bookshop is hosting an event in M9Lab to commemorate the ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women‘.

The event includes the presentation of Carla Lonzi‘s new book entitled “Sputiamo su Hegel e altri scritti“, edited by Annarosa Buttarelli, published by La nave di Teseo in 2023.

Carla Lonzi has played a fundamental role in the history of feminism, transforming the language through which women express their identity, sexuality and desires. Through her writings, in particular the groundbreaking “Sputiamo su Hegel” published in 1970 with the feminist collective Rivolta Femminile, Lonzi challenged the deeply patriarchal Italian society emerging from the cultural upheavals of ’68.

Lonzi, dissatisfied with the limited space for female self-awareness within Marxist culture, focused on the representation of women’s lives in everyday situations and relationships, approaching the topic with rigor and fervor, as well as with love.

The impact of Lonzi’s work continues to reverberate today. Her writings are widely loved, read and discussed, contributing to the development of new lines of thought. The republication of Lonzi’s complete works starting with “Sputiamo su Hegel” aims to highlight the breadth of her critical thinking, which ranges from art history to philosophy.

Annarosa Buttarelli, the editor, emphasizes that Lonzi’s writings should be presented without additional comments because they possess an overwhelming force and intense presence that could be diminished by explanations. These themes are seen as contributions to women’s ongoing struggle, offering inspiration for self-transformation and serving as a guide for those seeking the rare quality of thought in today’s world.

The curator discusses it with Laura Graziano and Olivia Guaraldo.
